Alpine's great day - Esteban Ocon becomes 111th Grand-Prix winner

Alpine's great day - Esteban Ocon becomes 111th Grand-Prix winner

back to blog overview

There are numerous reasons to release a Formula-1-winner car as a model. If the model then reminds of a driver's first victory, a particularly good one has been found.

At the Hungarian Grand Prix 2021, Esteban Ocon made it onto the highest podium for the first time - even though the season was dominated by Mercedes and Red Bull and the Frenchman's Alpines were usually only able to score points. However, due to unpredictable weather, a good strategy and support from his teammates, Ocon was able to become the 111th Grand Prix winner in the more than 70-year history of Formula 1. Manufacturer Solido has faithfully reproduced Ocon's victorious Alpine A521 from the turbulent Grand Prix in scale 1:18.

After a collision at the start on the slippery track just outside of Budapest, the race was initially interrupted. At the restart, the track was already so dry that everyone came into the pits to change tires. Everyone but leader Lewis Hamilton, who was all alone on the grid when the race restarted. The Hungarian Grand Prix 2021 was remembered just because of this bizarre scene.

When Hamilton also stopped for a tire change shortly afterwards, Esteban Ocon took the lead and converted it into the first win after 70 laps. Not only for himself, but also for his redesigned Alpine team, which has only been operating under this name since 2021. It was the first triumph for the team, based in Enstone, since Kimi Raikkonen's success in the 2013 Australian Grand Prix, then in the black and gold colors of the Lotus team.

Ocon's teammate Fernando Alonso played a large part in the success. The two-time world champion held Lewis Hamilton's much faster Mercedes behind him long enough to keep Ocon's back free. The fans honored Alonso's impressive performance by voting Driver of the Day.

In addition to Esteban Ocon's winning car from Hungary, Solido has also produced its scale 1:18 racing car from the Portugal Grand Prix. The race in Portimão was the third of the 2021 season. Esteban Ocon's seventh place there should be his best result of the season until victory in Hungary.
