Season No. 5 comes to an end: The last both runs of the FIA Formula E-Season 2018/19 take place on Saturday, July 13th and Sunday, July 14th, in New York. The team DS Techeetah and its driver Jean-Éric Vergne lead in advance, both the team and the drivers' standings. The 2,320 kilometer track with 14 turns, offers as in the past two years an unique view on the skyline of Manhattan. The track leads around the New York ferry terminal in the heart of the district of Brooklyn. Vergne could defend his title and become the first driver to win his second Formula E title. A good opportunity for the fans to close any gaps in the collections with cars also to Jean-Éric Vergne, because to the Frenchman, born on April 25th, 1990, CK still leads some models of his cars.
There is for example, the Renault Z.E.17 with start number 25, the New York winning car from season four 2017/18 of Team Techeetah, which was released by Spark. It is available in scale 1:43 under the item number 43FE04; under 18FE04 even in the format 1:18. In the finish, the miniatures from Spark are in no way inferior to those of the Formula 1, for example: every detail is perfectly transferred to the model, the impression is perfect without any restriction. If you are interested in Jean-Éric Vergne, you should also check out the modelcar of the Oreca 07 from the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2018 in the format 1:43, which Vergne, alongside Roman Russinow and Andrea Pizzitola have competed for G-Drive Racing (S7013). However, let us first listen to the words of Mark Preston, the team boss of DS Techeetah, on the upcoming New York Eprix.
Preston: "We are traveling to New York under similar conditions as last year. This time, however, we will not let us take the title in the team ranking. The fact that we have missed him by just two points last year still hurts. We will give everything to avoid a repetition. We want this team to win." And what does Jean-Éric Vergne say? "The Formula E season flew by and we're back in New York, and thanks to DS Automobiles as a designer, I took a step forward, I have the potential to win the title in the drivers' championship for the second year in a row, and the title in the team standings is within reach ... Preparing for the weekend is going well, we treat the final like any other race, because in the end, only the points count."
As in the previous four seasons, the title fight in Formula E will only be decided on the last weekend. Before the two races in New York, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler and Lucas di Grassi are in second place in the team and driver championships. Mathematically, eight pilots have chances for the title. In New York, for the only time this season, two races will be held. All in all, the so-called Double Header, including the additional points for the pole position and the fastest race lap, has 58 counters to be awarded. Lucas di Grassi is 32 points behind reigning champion Jean-Éric Vergne. "As long as we have a computational chance, we will give everything. In the past, we have proven more than once that the role of the hunter is good", says Lucas di Grassi.
Unforgettable is the race to catch up of the Brazilian on the last race weekend of the season 2016/17, when he came with a gap of ten points to Montreal and then became champion with 24 points ahead. In the previous year, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler made up 33 points in the two final races and became team champion. "We started the season with the goal to win races and to fight for the title until the very end - we succeeded," says team boss Allan McNish. "Of course, looking at the chart, we have a difficult task ahead of us. But Daniel, Lucas and the whole team showed last year what is possible with an incredibly strong team performance. We have nothing to lose but a lot to win." In 2018, the German-Brazilian duo won in the two New York races.
What does Daniel Abt say to New York?
To be added are two second places and a third place and thus 78 of 94 possible points. Full of anticipation, the well-known USA fan Daniel Abt will travel to the final, who recently enjoyed his followers on Youtube with his Malle Cup. "New York is a mega city with a track that I really enjoy," says the German, who stood twice on the podium in front of the Manhattan skyline last year. Abt has scored this season in nine of eleven races - best among all 22 drivers. "What's missing in my collection is a victory. That would be a perfect ending to the finale." We also wish that the sympathetic man from Kempten, to whom we also lead the current models as well as miniatures from the recent past. Just click here and take a look at the miniatures! Have fun!
