Bernd Rosemeyer should contest the Eifelrennen 1936 one of the most memorable fog races that was ever driven on the Nürburgring. It went over 10 laps, which corresponded to a race distance of 228 kilometers. Already the first round was determined by the three most important drivers of the time: Rudolf Caracciola on a Mercedes W25 took the first place, followed by the old warhorse Tazio Nuvolari on Alfa Romeo P3. In third place Rosemeyer drove with his Type C. After the third lap was Nuvolari before Caracciola at the top, but Rosemeyer caught up. After the departure of Caracciola because of shock absorber damage a thrilling duel for the victory between Nuvolari and the daredevil popular Rosemeyer arose. From the 7th round, Rosemeyer led Nuvolari behind.
Then, in the next round, the surprise: sudden onset, heavy fog enveloped the Nürburgring. Visibility: Less than 20 meters! Rosemeyer was not impressed by this, took advantage of his track memory and his seventh sense and won, henceforth as Nebelmeister asserted. Thus, the Auto Union had set another sign that the previous dominance of Mercedes-Benz is no longer inviolable. The 16-cylinder V-engine with Roots compressor modeled on the model made at that time 383 kW / 520 hp and got its power from 6.0 liters of displacement. At 340 kilometers per hour, the Type C of the Eifel race reached its maximum speed. Of course, Minichamps' model on a scale of 1:18 is not that fast, but nevertheless it quickly secured a place in our hearts.
The model car in detail
The city of Aachen decided to use Diecast as the main material for the model limited to 1,002 units, but in contrast to CMC they do without functional parts. But the surface details of the model car as well as the replicas of the wheels with the filigree spokes and the replicas of the brake system are of the very first cream. The cockpit with its central instrument is also impressive. A driver figure of the unforgotten Bernd Rosemeyer crowns the model with the article number 155361018, of which there is under 155361012 also a version of Hans Stuck in the decoration, in which the type C 1936 started for the Formula 1 race in Budapest; also limited to 1,002 pieces and in the same grade.
