Most readers of our blog were pleasantly surprised when we announced last week that they would be partner of the Team75 Motorsport team, which will compete in the Super Sports Car League, the ADAC GT Masters, as KÜS Team75 Bernhard. Premiere: For the first time, the two-time long-distance world champion and Le Mans overall winner Timo Bernhard himself takes the wheel of one of the Porsche 911 GT3 R of the team bearing his name. On the weekend of April 14 and 15, 2018, the season of the high-caliber motorsport series in Oschersleben started. Team KÜS Team75 Bernhard secured the first points: Timo Bernhard (37) from Bruchmühlbach-Miesau and his Porsche works driver colleague Kévin Estre (29) from France took seventh place in the Sunday race on the 3.667 kilometers long track with the # 17 Porsche.
The points account has been opened. The KÜS Team75 Bernhard has clinched the first points of the season at the Sunday race for the ADAC GT Masters at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Timo Bernhard (winner of the WEC Endurance World Championship in the Porsche 919 LMP1 in 2015 and 2017) and his works driver colleague Kévin Estre finished seventh; in the sister car, with the start number 18, ex-Porsche junior Klaus Bachler (26) from Austria and Adrien De Leener (28) from Belgium barely missed the points with 12th place. A significant improvement compared to the Saturday race, in which the No. 17 finished in 13th place and the number 18 in 25th place. 35 participants started on Sunday in dry weather and just under 20 degrees outside temperature. 32 were scored.
But Sunday offered potential for Bernhard and Estre to achieve more: in the morning's qualifying session, which was marked by numerous slip-ups, both Estre and Bachler got on the fast laps and got in traffic and loss time. In the end, Kévin started from twelfth place, Klaus from 19th. In the race Kévin Estre was able to make up several positions and came to the pits in ninth place. Timo started the race again in seventh place and brought this place safely to the finish. Klaus Bachler worked his way up to the driver change in 15th place, Adrien De Leener finished in his stint the Bernhard-Porsche in 12th place - his best result in the ADAC GT Masters. We look forward to the next two races, which will take place on the weekend of April 27-29 in Most / Czech Republic. But what do the drivers say about the season debut?
Timo and Kevin for the start of the season in Oschersleben
Timo Bernhard: "A good result. With seventh place in the second race we were able to collect the first points in the season. That was important after we just missed it yesterday. We have always been in the top ten all weekend and we have a very good base. We have learned a lot again. The team is new in this composition, so P7 was just an important signal and now we can prepare ourselves for Most and attack there again." Kévin Estre: "A clean race. The qualifying was not optimal. We had a lot of traffic. It's very difficult with so many cars on this track. We started well from P 12, we had a good strategy, at the end Timo finished at P 7."
