The Porsche 917 LH "Hippie" from the 1970 24h of Le Mans as impressive 1:12 model by CMR.
RRP €219.95, item-no.: CMR12017

There are race cars that are remembered for their victories, and there are vehicles that have become immortal simply by virtue of their appearance. The Porsche 917 Longtail with starting number 3 undoubtedly belongs to the latter category. Its vibrant livery, which even back then earned it the nickname "Hippie," remains one of the most iconic designs in motorsport history. With this high-quality 1:12 scale model, CMR brings this extraordinary vehicle back to life in impressive size, exclusively for ck-modelcars.

The model's size allows the low-slung body, the extremely long rear end, and the intricate lines of the original to be showcased to particularly striking effect. Made of high-quality resin, the model boasts excellent surface quality and a precise reproduction of the distinctive paintwork. The subtle color gradients and organic shapes of the "Hippie" design especially benefit from the model's generous size, making it a true eye-catcher.

The car's history dates back to the 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans, a race of immense importance to Porsche. After several attempts, the Zuffenhausen-based manufacturer was determined to finally achieve its first overall victory in the world's most famous endurance race. To this end, Porsche developed not only the proven short-tail 917 but also the aerodynamically optimized 917 long-tail (LH), specifically designed for the long straights of the Circuit de la Sarthe. The goal was to achieve the highest possible top speed on the legendary Mulsanne Straight.

The Porsche with starting number 3 was driven by Gérard Larrousse and Willi Kauhsen. Although the car ultimately crossed the finish line in second place, this very configuration gave rise to one of the most iconic motorsport images of all time. The car, which appeared with a white primer during practice, was later painted a shade of green. The sweeping color scheme reminded many observers of psychedelic artworks from the late 1960s, quickly earning the Porsche the nickname "Hippie," which it still bears today.

While Porsche ultimately celebrated its first overall Le Mans victory with the red and white Porsche 917K driven by Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood, the "Hippie" 917 evolved over the years into arguably the most famous long-tail Porsche ever. Numerous posters, books, and exhibitions made the car known worldwide and gave it a cult status that remains unbroken to this day.

The Porsche 917 LH "Hippie" is therefore far more than just a model car. It is a piece of motorsport history, a work of art on wheels, and a highlight for any discerning Porsche or Le Mans collection.
