The bus manufacturer's smallest coach model not only had an attractive appearance, but also technical innovations that were a world premiere at the time.
In addition to the new self-supporting body - “Setra” for short in German - the S6 had independent front and rear suspension as well as a special rubber shock absorber system, which gave the passengers a completely new driving experience. There was also a particularly low entrance, a headroom in the aisle of 1.85 meters and the distinctive curved panoramic roof windows, which not only gave the Setra S6 its special appearance, but also offered travelers excellent all-round visibility.
With a length of only around seven meters, the S6 initially had space for up to 24 passengers. In the later models, the number of seats was reduced to 22 in order to install reclining seats that fold out towards the aisle and to enlarge the trunk. For additional storage space, the S6 had a roof gallery, which was accessible via a ladder at the rear of the bus. This included a four-cylinder rear engine manufactured by Henschel exclusively for Kässbohrer, which brought the small 90 hp bus to a comfortable cruising speed of almost 100 kph.
Schuco offers a beautiful model of the Setra S6 in scale 1:18. The blue and turquoise model of the bus, christened “Kraichgau Falke”, has an interior that is true to the original and doors that can be opened. With great attention to detail, it reflects the original as best as possible and should not be missing from any collection.
