Christoph Krombach celebrates double podium at the 24h Dubai

Christoph Krombach celebrates double podium at the 24h Dubai

back to blog overview

Transmission problems prohibit a better result of Christoph Krombach at the 24h Dubai, however, the founder of ck-modelcars can still be happy about two podium results.

Christoph Krombach started his motorsport season for the second time alraedy in January at the 24h-race in Dubai. As in the previous year, Krombach raced for Sorg Rennsport. Together with Benito Tagle from Mexico, the American José Garcia, Gero Bauknecht from Swizerland as well as the GT3-ass Patrick Kolb from Germany, the entrepreneur drove a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

Krombach went into the race with a clear goal: to repeat his victory in the TCX class. And the quintet also wanted to have a say in winning the class in the overarching TCE category.

In the three-part qualifying, the Sorg Rennsport Porsche qualified third in the TCX class and took fifth place in the TCE category, in which the TCR touring cars are also counted alongside the participants from the TCX class.

In the race, the red and white Cayman GT4 with ck-modelcars and WERK83 branding consistently turned its laps and swam its way to the top of the TCX class, where the vehicle had a commanding lead on Sunday morning. But on Sunday things got turbulent at the Dubai Autodrome. A short but heavy rain shower set in on the race track in the desert state. Given the changed weather conditions, the team benefited from their experience on the Nürburgring Nordschleife and did a flawless job.

But at the same time the vehicle began to have transmission problems. These forced the vehicle into the pit lane more and more often before the team of the Sorg brothers had to carry out longer repairs on the gearbox a few hours before the end of the race. Despite the problem, the team was able to finish the race in second place in the TCX class and third in the TCE category.

Christoph Krombach: “My second 24h race and on the podium for the 4th time. The gearbox in our Cayman broke down at the end of the race, so we were “only” able to get to the finish line in second place! It's a shame to have missed out on defending our class victory, but what outweighs the joy is that we were able to get on the podium again and put in a strong performance. My thanks go to my teammates and the Sorg crew. We had a perfectly prepared vehicle at all times and the boys and girls did a fantastic job!”
