In early 2019, there were first sightings of a prototype of the Porsche Cayman 718, which at the time showed different air intakes and a spoiler with a gooseneck. During test drives on the Nordschleife, inveterated Porsche fans should have noticed at the latest that this Cayman sounds different than the normal GT4. "They don't have it, do they?" was the question that arose in a few places and "yes, they have!" was the answer. What is meant is the reason for the special timbre of the Cayman and this is that the heart of the Porsche 911 GT3 beats in it. The engine had to be rotated 180 degrees to fit perfectly, which cost it 10 hp due to the resulting lengthening of the exhaust system, but also gave it a sound that is otherwise only known from the racetrack. The "super-Cayman" bears the name Porsche Cayman GT4 RS. The label Minichamps already presented this very Cayman GT4 RS in the colors arctic grey and azzuro thetys metallic, which could find the way into the home collections of Porsche fans. Now, the label is making collectors' hearts beating faster with four new special colors. In addition to the colors red and white, which are each equipped with black rims, the color palette also includes the basic colors yellow and shark blue with silver rims. The models in scale 1:43 manufactured exclusively for ck-modelcars are limited to 200 pieces per color. The miniatures from the Faszination Sportwagen collector series reflect all the important details of their role models.
Overall, what Porsche did in Flacht, where Porsche's GT models are made, was giving the Cayman a slimming diet. The fact that the GT4 RS has loops instead of door handles is already known from other GT models. Furthermore, Porsche relies on carbon as a material for the bonnet and the front fenders. Thinner carpets, reduction of the insulating material, as well as windows and headlights made of lightweight glass ensure further weight savings. If that's not enough for you, you can also choose the optionally available magnesium rims. Large diffusers, a three-way adjustable gooseneck spoiler and the completely closed underbody ensure more downforce and show how serious the GT4 RS is in Flacht. Porsche is also serious about the sound of the engine. According to an editor of a German car newspaper, the weight reductions mentioned when using the insulating material in connection with the concept for the intake of the engine when accelerating are like yelling into the family doctor's stethoscope during the annual check-up. The emotion that the boxer sound conveys to the driver, which is perceived as positive on second inspection, relates to the measured 105 dB(A) at maximum speed. The Lambos and Ferraris of this world and also the in-house 911 GT3 have so far remained close to the 100 mark without breaking it. At this point it should be pointed out once again that an increase in sound pressure by 3dB(A) corresponds to a doubling of the perceived volume.
As far as the values are concerned, the GT4 RS is far superior to all its Cayman brothers. The 500 hp six-cylinder from the 911 GT3 catapults the Cayman GT4 RS to 100 kph in 3.2 seconds. Another 7.3 seconds later the speedometer needle shows 200 kph. 315 marks the end. Whoever buys the Cayman GT4 RS buys emotions and driving pleasure. The price starts here at just under €145,000, which can also quickly move towards the 200,000 mark with one or the other tick in the option list.
