The four vehicles competed with the number 66, 67, 68 and 69 - as a reference to four subsequent years in which the forefather GT40 once won.
After the 24 hours of Le Mans 2019, Ford withdraw from raceing. For the farewell race at the Sarthe, Ford added an even more striking retro element to its cars than the starting numbers. Three of the four vehicles drove in different designs in which the GT40 was successful in the 1960s. Ixo released these three racing cars in scale 1:43.
The car with starting number 66, driven by Stefan Mücke, Olivier Pla and Billy Johnson, had the victorious color-design in black with white stripes from 1966. Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon achieved the first triumph in this design back in the days.
The No. 67 car driven by Andy Priaulx, Harry Tincknell and Jonathan Bomarito picked up the winning design from the following year. In 1967, Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt in a red GT40 with white stripes.
The number 69 car, driven by Scott Dixon, Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook, was dedicated to the triple victory in 1966. The then runners-up, Ken Miles and Denis Hulme, drove in the light blue livery, which was also reactivated in 2019.
Ferrari and Porsche decided the victory fight. The three described Ford GT all missed the podium and secured position four, five and six. However, the Ixo-models are beautiful collectibles. Because they not only remember the history and successes of the legendary Ford GT40, but also the last strong year in the GTE-Pro-Class at the 24 hours of Le Mans. After Ford, BMW and Aston Martin also withdraw from factory-use, so that only Ferrari, Porsche and Chevrolet are still represented until today.
Those who prefer to put the originals from the 60s in their showcase will also find what they are looking for in the ck-modelcars shop. For example, the red and white winning car from 1967 is available, also produced by Ixo on a scale of 1:43. CMR is also offering three 1966 GT40s in scale 1:43, plus a set of two featuring the 1966 1st and 2nd place cars.
