The smell of fine leather in your nose, the power of many horses under the hood, the sound of an engine with 2 turbochargers in your  ear and dressed in a tailored suit - what more could a driver ask for ? Nothing. Except perhaps a suitable model car . Exactly that is being offered to collectors by  the company Minichamps from Aachen with the 1982  Maserati Biturbo Coupe in 1:18 scale, which is available in  a dark blue metallic paint under the item number 107 123 500 . Minichamps has chosen a really inspiring automobile for making this miniature: the Maserati Biturbo was offered in 1981 to 1994 , a fairly long period of time. The car celebrated its debut on December 14, 1981 ; in time for the 67th anniversary of the founding of Maserati.

Lots of power from low engine capacity

The concept was made up by  Alejandro de Tomaso - the owner of Maserati since 1975. He wanted to achieve higher numbers and utilize  the factory  better with  the model positioned below the Quattroporte therefor make  it more  profitable. The 2 + 2-seater notchback coupé was powered by a 132 kW / 180 hp six-cylinder with  2 turbochargers; quite a lot for a V6 with only 2.0 liters of displacement. The design of the Biturbo indulged the  pure wedge shape, and looked very elegant. Even from today's perspective timeless like well-fitting, tight tailored suit. This all fits in with the luxurious interior in leather , Alcantara and a wooden steering wheel. Clearly, that even at that time the Italian Chic , that Fiat doen't have until today , moved into the automobile.

A very fine detailing

Even today Maserati is measure of all things among experts with the latest Ghibli or Quattroporte in terms of interior design and furnishing . Minichamps has successfully tried to apply the feeling of Italian chic to the  resine plastic model car. The finish of the lines of the outer skin, the replica of leather and wood steering wheel in the interior,  as well as the knowledgeable execution of details like the Trident on the grille and the look of the light-alloy wheels are highlights in model car buisness. We especially like the grill, inside of  the headlights and the details of construction of the bumpers. But Minichamps also has well implemented  the appearance of stern statements, the lines and the design of the rear lights in the scale of 1:18.

Maserati Biturbo fits well in offers

We are a little bit  bothered  by the very  dominant threads of the rear window defroster, which seem to be a little too large in size. The  very well made fine interior makes up for it though: A view of the center console reveals what we mean. Bottom line is that the team led by Paul G. and Romy Lang have brought a great model car to the market that complements models of types Ghibli, GranCabrio, Quattroporte and Indy from TopMarques and Minichamps in size 1 : 18 very good . With 169,95 Euro the Maserati Biturbo is priced the top end of the small series models made from resine plastic , but you don't buy  a tailor-made suit  every day, either, right?
