Behind the effort was Team 75 Motorsport, founded by Le Mans overall winner and Porsche brand ambassador Timo Bernhard. With appearances in prestigious racing series such as the DTM and the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany, the team has earned considerable recognition in GT racing. In collaboration with Phantom Global Racing, the team from Rhineland-Palatinate presented itself on the biggest stage in GT racing: the Intercontinental GT Challenge.
At the same time, Bernhard traditionally pursues a clear goal: to specifically promote young drivers and give them the opportunity to compete at the highest level. This very concept was also reflected in the driver lineup for Bathurst. In the cockpit of the Porsche 911 GT3 R were three highly talented young drivers – Bastian Buus, Joel Eriksson, and Jaxon Evans – who perfectly fit the image of the "young guns."
For the drivers, the race on Australia's Mount Panorama Circuit represented one of the greatest challenges in GT racing. The legendary Bathurst circuit is one of the most spectacular tracks in the world: fast sections, unforgiving walls, and extreme elevation changes make every lap a tightrope walk.
“Our first race together is also a highlight of the calendar: the Bathurst 12 Hour. I never drove on this track during my active career. I've never even been there; so it's a first for me personally. Besides myself, other members of our Team 75 Motorsport will be there, which will allow us to best support Global Phantom Racing. We're going to Australia with a good feeling, especially since we have three very good drivers. I think we can deliver a strong performance at Bathurst,” said an enthusiastic Timo Bernhard, looking ahead to the race.
The 21st edition of the endurance classic in Down Under developed into one of the closest races in recent years. An incredible eight cars were still within a lead lap after the checkered flag – impressive proof of the high level of competition in the GT3 class, especially in the Pro category. And in the end, a Porsche 911 GT3 R even managed to pull ahead, securing overall victory for the Stuttgart-based brand. But that wasn't all: thanks to the flawless performance of Phantom Global Racing, a double podium finish for the Zuffenhausen-based manufacturer and the then-new 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 R was almost within reach. In a thrilling finale, they missed out on a podium place by a mere two seconds.
For model car collectors, the strikingly designed Porsche 911 GT3 R is now available in scale 1:18 from model car manufacturer Ixo. The model was produced to Ixo's usual high standards and reflects the original as accurately as possible.
