Sheldon van der Linde is a proper part of the driver field in the DTM for some years now. After a difficult 2021 season without victories and only a few points, the South African with recidence in Kempten, Germany fullfilled his dream in the 2022 season and achieved the title of the popular touring car series. This meant that in the 2023 season, all signs were pointing towards Sheldon van der Linde and his team Schubert Motorsport defending their title. The vehicle with which this should succeed is a BMW M4 GT3. The label Minichamps makes it possible for this BMW to now find a place in all DTM collections. Exclusively for ck modelcars and limited to just 301 units, the vehicle is available in scale 1:18 in our shop. Minichamps has recreated the cockpit of the South African's vehicle in just as much detail as the engine compartment and all other details on the BMW M4 GT3 from Schubert Motorsport. The hood, doors and trunk can be opened and the front wheels can be steered. So it's no wonder that the 2023 model was voted modelcar of the year by the trade magazine "Modellfahrzeug".
In 2023, Sheldon van der Linde was also part of the team Schubert Motorsport, with whom he had won the title the year before. The season started off promisingly for Torsten Schubert's team. In the second race in Zandvoort, van der Linde made it onto the podium and secured second place. When a win in race one and another podium place in race two followed at the Norisring the following weekend, everything looked as if the mission to defend the title could be successful. Unfortunately, the rest of the season was much more mixed. Technical problems and unpredictable incidents on the track repeatedly put the South African to the test. The very consistent performances of Mirko Bortolotti (Lamborghini) and Thomas Preining (Porsche) made the difference over the rest of the season. In addition to another win in the first race in Spielberg and further podium finishes at the Lausitzring and in the second race in Spielberg, van der Linde remained winless in the other races. Apart from two retirements at the Nürburgring and the Sachsenring, the BMW driver was mostly consistently in the points. Therefore, before the last race at the Hockenheimring, there was still a mathematical chance of defending the title. In the end, van der Linde finished a confident fourth behind Thomas Preining (1st place), Mirko Bortolotti (2nd place) and Ricardo Feller (3rd place).
2023 is another year in which van der Linde has once again shown that he is one of the best drivers in GT-racing and that he can be reckoned with again in the 2024 season. Fans can therefore look forward to seeing what surprises the young South African has in store for them in the current season. With Rene Rast, Marco Wittmann and Sheldon van der Linde, Schubert Motorsport is sending three DTM winners into the race this year.
