The record hunt by Volkswagen and Romain Dumas at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2018 was a success across the board. The Frenchman completed the 19.99-kilometer route up the 4,301-meter-high mountain in his all-electric Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak in a time of 7: 57.148 minutes.

Dumas not only pulverized the existing record for electric vehicles, which was set by Rhys Millen in 2016 with a time of 8: 57.118 minutes, but was also significantly faster than the absolute best time of 8.13.878 minutes set by nine-time world rally champion Sebastien in 2013 Loeb had been driven.

Dumas was the first driver in the history of the Pikes Peak hill climb to stay below the eight-minute barrier and drove through the 156 corners at an average speed of 145.132 km / h.
