Mercedes-Benz SL "Pagoda"
- The W 113 series from 1963 to 1971
by Brian Long
Under one famous roof
A legend was born 50 years ago: the Mercedes-Benz W 113. This SL had the difficult task of taking on the legacy of the legendary “Gullwing” 300 SL and its open-top derivatives such as the 190 SL. It mastered this challenge perfectly and drove itself through its beauty, its perfection and its stable value into the hearts of entire generations of car enthusiasts.
This very detailed and richly illustrated book contains all the data on the Mercedes-Benz Roadster 230 SL, 250 SL and 280 SL. After an introductory prehistory, which describes the history of the brand and the creation of the first SL, you learn everything about the "Pagoda" - including how it got its famous name thanks to its unusually shaped hard top. With in-depth specialist knowledge and illustrated by unique photos and images, the author illuminates the development, marketing, model maintenance, technical data and sports activities of the Mercedes-Benz W 113.
It is particularly interesting that the view also goes beyond one's own nose: The peculiarities of the models for export and the situation in the individual markets are meticulously explained. This "all-inclusive package" is rounded off by an extensive set of tables, in which nothing is missing from available engines, color combinations, special equipment codes to sales figures and chassis numbers of the Cabriolet Beaus.
The author Brian Long is no stranger to the scene. After more than 50 publications on the subject of “automobiles” - including the book about the Mercedes-Benz R / C 107 that was recently published by Delius Klasing - here he is once again devoting himself to his “experienced” passion, the SL.
