Lewis Hamilton is going to Ferrari for the 2025 Formula 1 season. This spectacular move marks the end of the almost unprecedentedly successful collaboration between the Briton and the Mercedes team after twelve years together, six drivers' and eight constructors' world championship titles, 84 victories, 153 podium places and 78 pole positions.

Hamilton and Mercedes celebrated their first world championship title in 2014. Model manufacturer Minichamps provides an extraordinary souvenir of this first joint success with a true-to-original miniature of the steering wheel from the victorious Mercedes F1 W05 Hybrid. Striking elements are the large display, on which the gear indicator can be seen, for example, the three large rotary controls mounted below and the shift paddles and clutch lever on the back of the steering wheel. The buttons for the radio, the speed limiter for the pit lane and for the DRS system are also easy to see. In addition, there are numerous buttons, switches and controls that the drivers sometimes press dozens of times per lap and that are implemented differently by each team. The number of functions in the model is also impressive proof that a Formula 1 steering wheel does much more than just steer the car left and right.

The series of successes that followed his first title in 2014 was not foreseeable at the start of Lewis Hamilton's career, especially not with Mercedes. After all, the Brit had already been under the wing of the then McLaren team boss Ron Dennis as a young driver, under whose leadership Hamilton entered Formula 1 in 2007. After the world championship title in 2008 and six seasons together, Hamilton unexpectedly decided to switch to Mercedes. There he succeeded Michael Schumacher in 2013, although at the time it was not yet foreseeable that he would subsequently equal or even break several of Schumi's records. The first season with Mercedes brought five pole positions, a win in Hungary and fourth place in the World Championship.

The combination really took off from the aforementioned 2014 season, which brought far-reaching changes to Formula 1. First and foremost, this was the introduction of turbo engines and highly complex hybrid systems.

The Mercedes drive was far superior to the competition and the chassis of the car known as the W05 also proved to be a hit. Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg won 16 of the 19 Grands Prix. Only Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull managed to leave the Mercedes drivers behind in three races. Lewis Hamilton ultimately won the team's internal title fight.
