After the road version of the Porsche 911 was released in the 992 series in February 2021, the version of a GT3 racing car traditionally followed, which goes by the name Porsche 911 GT3 R. With this model, Porsche would like to build on the success of its predecessor, which has won almost all of the well-known racing series that the GT3 scene has to offer since its release in the 2019 season. The label Spark has released the new 911 in the paintwork in which Porsche presented it to the press. The model in scale 1:18 is - based on its model name - limited to a quantity of 911 pieces. In addition to the Porsche Werks outer packaging, Spark delivers the high-quality model on a presentation plate including a transparent cover, so that it can immediately find a place that does justice to this eye-catcher without any major detours or further purchases. No matter whether you look at the DTM winner from last season in 2023 or at the victorious Porsche in the 12-hour race at the legendary Mount Panorama at the beginning of 2024. Underneath the paintwork of both winning cars is the Porsche 911 GT3 R from the 992 series.
On the sidelines of the 24 Hours of Spa in 2022, Porsche presented the new 911 GT3 R of the 992 series, which can be used in races according to the GT3 regulations from the 2023 season. Like its predecessors, it also has a wide range of possible uses. Regardless of whether it is a sprint event or a long-distance race, it will find its place in every starting field. The fact that he can win consistently was demonstrated, among other examples, by the Manthey-Racing team in the 2023 DTM season. As far as the 2024 season is concerned, the GT3 R will be seen at endurance classics such as the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring, but also at the races of various GT3 series in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. If you want to have the GT3 R “hands-on”, you don’t have to drive that far, because private individuals who have the necessary change to be able to afford the racing car worth €511,000 can also use it in the Porsche Sports Cup. And now that the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) is allowing GT3 racing cars to take part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time from 2024, the GT3 R will certainly still have some exciting battles there and possibly a few class victories ahead.
If you express its performance in numbers, it becomes clear how serious Porsche is about its new model. Depending on the BoP, the GT3 R weighs just 1250kg. It is powered by a water-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine that delivers 565 hp with a displacement of 4.2 liters. But it's not just the performance data that is impressive, the 911 GT3 R (992) is also an eye-catcher visually. Due to the rear engine, Porsche can neither start the diffuser on the underbody as early nor pull it up as steeply as the competition. Therefore, the large, striking rear wing is necessary to compensate for the diffuser's lack of aerodynamics. Porsche's physical constraints give the GT3 racer an incomparable look and, among some fans, the nickname “wing monster”.
