This is about the fourth place in the Constructors' Championship behind the big three - Red Bull Racing, Mercedes and the Scuderia Ferrari. McLaren and Aston Martin Racing dueled about this position in the season 2023. In the end, the McLaren F1 team prevailed with 302 to 280 points.

Things looked anything but rosy for the British team after the first third of the season. After McLaren started the season with a double retirement in Bahrain, it took until the tenth Grand Prix in Silverstone for Lando Norris to reach the podium for the first time in his home race with second place.

After this liberation, the team turned up the heat. Over the remaining twelve race weekends, McLaren collected a total of 13 podium places in sprint and main races.

Lando Norris, who has been racing for McLaren since 2019 and is considered one of the most promising talents, achieved nine podium finishes. With seven second places and two third places, the Brit with starting number four earned a total of 205 points, ending the season in sixth place in the championship. What was still denied him, however, was a victory.

Norris' teammate Oscar Piastri achieved this milestone, at least in a sprint race, in his debut season in the premier class. The Australian replaced his compatriot and crowd favorite Daniel Ricciardo for 2023. After a difficult start, things went better and better for Piastri in the second half of the season. The rookie experienced his highlight at the Grand Prix of Qatar. After his debut victory in the sprint race on Saturday, he only had to admit defeat to world champion Max Verstappen in second place in the main race. This strong comeback in the second part of his debut year was rewarded with ninth place in the championship table.
