As part of the close cooperation with the modelcar manufacturer Minichamps a truly extraordinary minature was created: The Porsche 956 K with starting number 2 in Rothmans-Porsche-design in scale 1:18. With the role model of this model Stefan Bellof should write motorsports history. In the final race to the ADAC 1000 kilometers-race at the Nürburgring, he burned a fabulous time on the asphalt of the Nordschleife, which sould have existed for 35 years! The models are produced of diecast and trace the legendary sports car prototype of Porsche exactly in its lines and the design: The appearance is perfect and brings back memories of the Saturday in May, 1983, which is still unforgotten till today. Minichamps has produced an edition of 611 units matching the lap time, which is available in time for the current weekend!
Because up from today's Friday till Sunday we are at the Nürburgring with the CK-Trailer, where the next racing weekend of the ADAC GT Masters starts. Our stall near medical center will not only show the latest news from Minichamps this week but also the new modelcars, to which we want to summarize the most important backgrounds. Experts of our blog know that it was not the first modelcar to the record car, which was scaled down in format 1:43 by CMR. So now there is also a very exclusive version from Minichamps in 1:18, reminiscent of the record ride of the unforgotten racer Stefan Bellof. We look back - the battle for the pole position for the ADAC 1000-kilometer race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, which was part of the 1983 World Endurance Championship, was in full swing.
The former formula 1 pilot Jochen Mass is five seconds slower; Stefan Bellof takes half a minute off the reigning formula 1 worldchampion Keke Rosberg on the 20,835 kilometers messuring long Nordschleife: 6:11,13 minutes needed the newcomer in the team with the Porsche 956 chassis No. 007 for one lap of the awesomly Green Hell called track. With an average of 202 kilometers per hour on the road - faster than any racer before. Despite two small mistakes, as he will typically say relaxed after that. The former track spokesman and Bellof manager Rainer Braun stormed into the timekeeping: "Is that true? Or do you have a mistake in it?" No mistake. Impossible. Braun: "And I said it does not exist, it can not be that people are so crazy. Where does he get the time? He was much faster than his Porsche team-mates!"
Especially the Porsche-star Jacky Ickx derailed his facial features, when he heard about the time. Braun: "There it was not about few tenths, but about 5, 6, 7, 10 seconds and more per lap!" And it should last 35 years and 31 days, until someone was faster: In 5:19.55 minutes in the morning of June 29th, 2018, Timo Bernhard rounded the corresponding course of the Nürburgring faster than Stefan Bellof succeeded in 1983. With a Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo exempt from all restrictions of the regulations, Bernhard drove an average speed of 233.8 kilometers per hour. The five-time overall winner of the 24 Hour race at the Nürburgring, twice overall winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and two-time endurance world champion undercut Stefan Bellof's record by 51.58 seconds.
CK-Trailer also for the DTM at the Lausitzring
But the experts in motorsports know that Bernhard has made this not to be diminished masterpiece with a technically superior vehicle: Not to compare with the 2.7-liter six-cylinder boxer engine of Bellofs Porsche 956, which made 455 kW / 620 hp and won all titles of the FIA World Sportscar Championship from 1982 to 1984 in the ratings for drivers and the brands. One more reason to secure one of these rare Minichamps modelcars. And here is a small advance notice: On August 24th and 25th, 2019, our trailer will be a guest appearance at the DTM at the Lausitzring, where it will be located behind the main grandstand. Come over; We look forward to you!
