When the Porsche 904 was first presented at Solitude Castle in Stuttgart in 1963 to compete in the GT class of the sports car championship, the initial plan was to build the minimum number of 100 vehicles required by the FIA for successful homologation and to offer them not only as racing cars but also with road approval in order to achieve this number of units.
