The GLB is positioned between the smaller GLA and the larger GLC in the Mercedes model range. After the near-series concept presentation in April 2019 at the Shanghai Motor Show, Mercedes celebrated its public premiere with the GLB in September 2019. The first vehicles were delivered to customers at the end of 2019. In the same year, the GLB achieved 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. In the first year after its publication, just under 10,000 new GLBs were registered in Germany alone, in which the proportion of vehicles equipped with gasoline engines was almost exactly the same as those with diesel engines.
The 4.6 meter long city-SUV with offroad roots is available with gasoline engine and 163 or 224 hp. The diesel engine gets delivered with 116 hp, 150 hp and also 190 hp. As the top verison, the GLB in AMG-version gets powered by a 306 hp engine from the A35.
