It is not a premiere of the role model of this modelcar in our shop, the model of the Porsche 911 SC, with which the legendary driver pairing Walter Röhrl and Christian Geistdörfer took part at the Rally Sanremo 1981. Already in the year 2017 and due to a cooperation with Ottomobile this car with the massive headlight battery and the lettering of the sponsor Eminence on the bonnet was available in scale 1:18. Now the small series label CMR puts with the variant of the model in 1:43 and delivered under the item number WRC006 a true-to-scale diecast miniature, which may actually be missing in any collection to the evergreen Porsche 911 and also comes at a very fair price into the trade. With this blog article, we look after the modelcar of the sports car, built according to the then valid regulations of the Group 4 and want to recall briefly the grandiose career of Röhrl.

Walter Röhrl - vantage 1949 - completed commercial education after school at the episcopal ordinariate Regensburg. After Röhrl just got the driver's license, he became the driver of real estate affairs. jur. Heinrich Zenglein. Immediately before beginning his professional career as a rally driver (1973) Röhrl completed training as a certified ski instructor and later met by the membership of Skiclub Regensburg Herbert Marecek, which brought the "Langen" (That's how he is called and known in Germany. It means the "tall" person, because he is very tall) - so his later nickname - to rallying and became his first passenger; at the same time organizing the financing of rally missions between 1968 and 1970. At the end of the 1992 career are two FIA World Championship drivers (1980, 1982) and the European Championship in 1974.

This includes: 14 victories in World Rally Championship races - one with co-driver Jochen Berger, all others with Christian Geistdörfer. Röhrl himself considers his four wins at the Monte Carlo Rally particularly significant, which he won with the cars of four different brands: 1980 Fiat, 1982 Opel, 1983 Lancia and 1984 Audi. Walter Röhrl has been a representative and test driver at Porsche since 1993. But back to the year 1981, throwback thursday at it's best: The Rally Sanremo, which took place from October 5th to 10th, 1981, was part of the World Rally Championship, but Röhrl did not compete because his new employer was Mercedes-Benz had already left before the Rallye Monte-Carlo. After San Remo he drove anyway and occupied the 911 SC of Sponsor Eminence, which we thank him today also because we indirectly have to thank him of this modelcar.
