Christmas, for the fans of the popular German racing driver Stefan Bellof, was basically in July this year: Minichamps brought the Tyrrell 012 in the scale 1:18, with its role model, the driver from Giessen in the rain race of Monaco 1984 in Formula 1, set accents. The producers from Aachen have paid a lot of attention to the model car in collaboration with the team Stefan Bellof Official and made a high-quality miniature out of resin, which is mounted on a gray asphalt modeled bottom plate. The model, which is available under the article number SBC-117840004, now receives reinforcement: since last week the modelcar of the Belgium GP from the same year (177840304) is available in our shop; this week the range extends by the 012 with the article number 117840404.

This brand-new model car, also in scale 1:18 replicates the car, used by the Tyrrell Racing Organization in the training for the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix which went to the track in the design of the cosmetics manufacturer Yardley - so contrary to the racing version of the car. He wanted to draw attention to his men's line in the program; In that time even stronger than today, the Formula 1 was dominated by the men of the guild, certainly not a bad idea. In the qualifying of June 2, 1984 at the 3.312-kilometer Circuit de Monaco McLaren, driver Alain Prost qualified before Nigel Mansell on Lotus and the two Ferrari 126C4 from René Arnoux and Michele Alboreto for the pole position. Stefan Bellof's team-mate Martin Brundle crashed heavily in the Tabac corner with his Tyrrell 012, but was uninjured.

Bellof drove in the 1st practice run 1: 27.836 minutes and had an average speed of 135.744 kilometers per hour; In the second final practise, the average was 138,453 with a time of 126,117 minutes. Which was only enough for the 20th and last place. For safety reasons, only 20 participants were allowed for this race; a tribute to the tightness of the city course. Lucky for Bellof, because he could still catch up with his furious race to the top of the field and wrote motorsport history. The team was hopelessly inferior to the Turbo teams with the Ford Cosworth DFY 3.0 V8, but Bellof proved with a lot of heart that it does not necessarily require a superior technology, if the driver is Stefan Bellof: after 27 laps in the rain, up from the beginning, Bellof chased the newcomer Senna in front of him.

The race director on this day was Bellof's Porsche works driver colleague Jacky Ickx, who stopped the race prematurely because of the constant rain and thus prevented a better placing of Bellof. So he kept moving forward and Senna would have been on second place and perhaps became even dangerous for the winner fixed Alain Prost. Ickx was accused of having helped the Porsche-driven Prost to victory, which was not conducive to the already miserable relationship between the Porsche factory drivers Bellof and the Belgian Ickx. Stefan Bellof certainly remembered back to Belgium: The Belgian Grand Prix on April 29, 1984, so three races ahead of Monaco, he finished with the 012 on the 6th place; his third race and his first arrival in Formula 1.

Two new 012er in top quality

And exactly the model of this car is already available, while the training 012 with the Yardley-decor, it has been added to the program since this week. Both have a weight of 2.36 kilos each and are of the very highest quality: from the cockpit to the gearbox, all components have been meticulously transferred to the model car. The clocks in the workplace are already good, but the details about drive shafts, gear box and rear axle can only be called - mega. Exactly profiled tires as well as almost functional intake funnels under a filigree grid of lattice, inspire technology as well as model car fans. Is there anything better than being able to hold such a beautiful model shortly before Christmas?
