03.09.2024Mercedes-AMG W15: Here is the first Formula 1-model of 2024

The Formula 1 has completed its summer break and now is in the final phase for the World Cup decision. And this will be very exciting after the dominance of Max Verstappen in the beginning. In the balanced top field, Mercedes was also able to add its name to the list of winners over the course of the season.

The competitiveness of the W15 of course was one of the biggest topics of conversation at the presentation of the vehicle on February 14th in Silverstone. But there was also a minor aspect that attracted attention – at least for performance on the track: the color scheme. With the black base color and the silver accents in the front, the new Mercedes got a lot of praise from fans. They had been eagerly awaiting the design anyway, as Mercedes had repeatedly changed the color of its Formula 1 racing cars in previous years.

In 2020, the Silver Arrows appeared in the unfamiliar black for the first time. For the 2022 season, the team switched back to the familiar silver with the introduction of the completely new cars, before the black outfit returned the following year. The 2024 design is a symbiosis of both colors for the first time.

Unfortunately, the W15, designed by james Allison, did not convince with its sportiness at the beginning of the season as compared to its optical appearance. With results in the back half of the top-10 and an Australian Grand Prix without points, Mercedes fell short of expectations. But a lot of work and the updates, brought to Imola, paid off at the ninth race of the year. In Montreal, George Russell achieved position three and thus the first podium for the team and the Mercedes-AMG W15. 

Five further successful weekends followed. First, Lewis Hamilton followed suit in Barcelona, also with third place, with his first podium in 2024. One week later, George Russell won the Grand Prix of Austria, after Max Verstappen and Lando Norris came too close in the showdown for the lead. A week later, Lewis Hamilton celebrated home victory in Silverstone in front of a roaring crowd. The seven-time world champion also took another third place in Hungary and – at least on the track – a double victory in Spa-Francorchamps, before George Russell was disqualified for underweight car and had to hand over the victory to his teammate.

Thanks to the new Minichamps models, Formula 1 and Mercedes fans can already get their hands on the W15 while it is still fighting for success on the race track. Both Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes and George Russell's car are available in scale 1:43. The two miniatures are just as easy to distinguish from each other as their originals. Hamilton's car can be identified by the usual starting number 44, the driver figure's yellow helmet and the yellow onboard camera. George Russell's model has the starting number 63, a black onboard camera and a light blue helmet design. Both models were produced in the usual high Minichamps quality and reflect the originals as well as possible.
