The joint journey of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes cemented one of the greatest success stories in Formula 1 history. The collaboration between the British driver and the German manufacturer resulted in 84 Grand Prix victories, six Drivers' World Championship titles, and eight Constructors' World Championship triumphs. The partnership ended at the end of 2024, after twelve years together, as Lewis Hamilton opted to move to Ferrari starting in the 2025 season.

Consequently, the 2024 W15 was Hamilton's last race car with the star on the front. The hoped-for revival of previous successes failed to materialize. Nevertheless, the man with the number 44 once again made his mark in the service of Mercedes.

The celebrated victory in Great Britain, which thrilled the Silverstone crowd and Formula 1 fans around the world, was particularly memorable. Hamilton won his home race for the ninth time, holding the record for most wins at a single track. Furthermore, a two-and-a-half-year drought came to an end, as Hamilton had last stood on the highest podium at the end of 2021 in Saudi Arabia.

The second win of the season and the last ever for Mercedes came at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps. Although teammate George Russell had prevailed on the track, he was disqualified after the race due to an underweight car.

Speaking of George Russell: The youngster often had the upper hand over his more experienced teammate within the team during Hamilton's farewell season. In 24 races, Russell beat Hamilton 15 times. The qualifying duel even ended 19 to five.
In the World Championship standings, George Russell finished sixth – one place and 22 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who, in addition to his two wins, also achieved four more podium finishes.

Hamilton's last Mercedes bore several visual characteristics from their twelve years together. The W15 was always black. Hamilton clinched his last world championship title with this design, first used in 2020. On the nose, however, the silver from previous years made a noticeable return. A red star diagonally below the airbox also commemorates the late Niki Lauda, ??who was instrumental in Hamilton's move to Mercedes. For many fans, the car was visually one of the favorites in the starting field.
