The 2020 Formula 1-season will be remembered by most as another year of dominance by Lewis Hamilton. After 17 World Championship races, he had eleven victories this season and the historic seventh world championship title to his name. In contrast to previous seasons, however, the Briton was already feeling pressure from Red Bull driver Max Verstappen in 2020. With two wins and nine more podium finishes, the Dutchman was able to push himself further and further into the foreground.

Things got particularly tricky for the seven-time world champion at his home Grand Prix on the Silverstone Circuit. In a dramatic race, several drivers were thrown back by punctures. Hamilton, who had been in the lead up to that point, also suffered a puncture on the front left on the last lap.

Verstappen was then able to drastically reduce his deficit on the final lap of the race. However, the tire damage of his British opponent came too late for the Dutchman. Although the lead literally melted away, Hamilton saved his Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 over the finish line just under six seconds ahead of Verstappen.
