30th Anniversary Collection: Over a dozen Senna models celebrating the 30th anniversary

Together with Minichamps, we will be dedicating ourselves to Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna next year and will be strengthening our range with over a dozen models in different sizes and in limited editions. There is of course a special reason for this. It is the 30th anniversary of the Brazilian's accidental death at the Grand Prix in Imola in 1994. To mark the occasion, Minichamps has released the cars celebrating Senna's most important milestones in a special 30th Anniversary Collection. Most models are available in the scales 1:18 and 1:43 and are also limited to 994 units in a special “Race Finish Edition”. We hope you enjoy browsing, but we would like to introduce you to a few special features of the collection in advance.

1. The beginnings with Toleman
Ayrton Senna's Formula 1 career began in 1984 with the Toleman team. Since the Brazilian Grand Prix marked the start of the season back then, Senna's first appearance was at the home race. The Toleman from Brazil is just as much a part of the Minichamps range as the car from the Monaco Grand Prix, in which the young Senna excelled. In the pouring rain, Senna compensated for the disadvantages of the inferior material and fought for the lead with Alain Prost. Shortly before Senna could take the lead, the race was stopped. So he only had second place, but the first exclamation mark was set.

2. The first victories with Lotus
After just one year, the Toleman contract was terminated and Ayrton Senna moved to Lotus. Wearing the legendary black and gold John Player Special outfit, the Brazilian achieved the first of his 41 Grand Prix victories at the 1985 Portuguese Grand Prix. Two years later - now in the yellow Lotus - Senna won for the first time on the streets of Monaco, where he had already shone and would shine many times later. These two and other Lotus models are also part of the 30th Anniversary Collection.

3. The World Cup victories with McLaren
Ayrton Senna won his three world championship titles with McLaren. Of course, the three winning cars from 1988, 1990 and 1991 are part of the range. The same applies to several McLarens from the 1993 season, in which Senna, among other things, won his home Grand Prix for the last time and also achieved his last Formula 1 victory ever.

4. The fateful weekend
After changing teams to Williams and a disappointing start to the 1994 season, Ayrton Senna led the San Marino Grand Prix in Imola to prevail against World Championship rival Michael Schumacher for the first time in the third race of the year. But then his fatal accident occurred, which would change Formula 1. The Williams, with which Ayrton Senna contested his last race on May 1st, 1994, is available in 1:18 and 1:43 as well as in 1:12. The same applies to the Lotus from its debut victory in 1985.

5. The signature helmet
One of Ayrton Senna's trademarks was the distinctive helmet design. Even young drivers who never saw Senna drive during his lifetime still use his helmets three decades after his accidental death as inspiration or template for designing their own head protection. Minichamps has six different Senna helmets in scale 1:8 on offer as a high-quality addition to the modelcars.
