As the successor to the Audi 200 quattro Trans-Am, the car won seven races in the American sports car racing series with Hans-Joachim Stuck at the wheel. However, Audi had decided not to compete in the major endurance races at Daytona and Sebring, which is why the team "only" finished second in the final championship standings.
The 1989 season was the 19th year of the IMSA GT Championship. At the time, it was a championship for prototypes in the GTP and Lights classes as well as for vehicles in the GTO and GTU categories. It began on 4 February 1989 and ended on 22 October 1989 after twenty race weekends. As the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO was still under development at the start of the season, the car only made its debut in Miami. After Audi had therefore skipped the two highlights of the season at Daytona and Sebring, the team led by Hans-Joachim Stuck won for the first time at Summit Point Raceway. Further successes at Watkins Glen, Road America and Laguna Seca laid the foundations for second place in the championship behind their Ford rivals. Without the absence from the endurance classics at the start of the season, Audi would have had a good chance of winning the championship.
The miniature editions of these legendary and instantly successful racing cars are very popular with collectors. In co-operation with WERK83, ck-modelcars is offering four new 1:18 scale models of the IMSA Audi. The races at Watkins Glen, Road America, Laguna Seca and Portland provide the perfect opportunity to faithfully reproduce the racing cars.
Compared to the production car, the racing version was much wider and fitted with a rear spoiler. On fast tracks, the car could also be fitted with a two-storey rear wing. A fifth model with this wing configuration is already being planned and will be released at a later date.
All the cars presented are finished to WERK83's usual high quality. With their striking Audi Sport design, the models are in no way inferior to their role models.
