Solido presents the Power Golf with 245 hp in two colors in scale 1:43

Solido presents the Power Golf with 245 hp in two colors in scale 1:43

back to blog overview

The now eighth generation of the Golf GTI puts the sportswear back on the sales classic.

GTI stands for Grand Tourisme Injection and is one of the top-of-the-line engines that you can buy in a Golf from the factory. When the first Golf GTI appeared in 1975, it was included in VW's sales planning as a special edition with 5,000 planned units. In the end, there were 100 times as many copies. 45 years and almost 2.3 million copies later, in 2022 the eighth generation of the muscle golf will come onto the market. The label Solido has a model available for us in scale 1:43 in the colors lapiz blue and oryx white. Both models have been produced in the well-known Solido quality and represent the original one in the best possible way. The Golf and above all the Golf GTI play a key role in the long history of VW. For collectors, the eighth GTI is the addition to the GTI series of recent decades.

The first Golf appeared in 1974. Today, with over 35 million units built, it is the most-built car in the world. At the end of the 1960s, VW was not doing well financially. Demand for the VW Beetle fell sharply. The Golf represented the hope for VW to escape from the sales crisis. Back then, nobody in Wolfsburg could have imagined that this hope would turn into such a great success. Longer, wider, higher, heavier and yet faster is the motto that developed over the course of the model years. The current Golf 8 is 60 cm longer, 18 cm wider, 7 cm higher and, above all, almost 700 kg heavier than its 1st generation brother. Of course, this development is also linked to the increased performance of the engines. A 110 hp engine was installed in the Golf 1 GTI. At the beginning with 1.6 and later with 1.8 liters displacement. That performance has more than doubled over the years.

Visually, the Golf GTI then lost a little of its visual independence compared to the standard Golf from the 2 Series Golf. This development culminated in the 4 Series Golf, where the GTI could hardly be distinguished visually from the production Golf, apart from its model designation. This deficit was recognized in Wolfsburg just in time for the Golf 5 GTI. The red applications on the radiator grille and the original seats with a checked pattern found their way back into the GTI. Since then, Volkswagen has retained the concept of the visibly sporty everyday car with the three well-known letters. Various special models of the GTI such as the GTI Clubsport or the special edition "Pirelli" were added over the course of the series. The bottom line is that VW has launched a family-friendly sports car in the eighth generation, which combines everyday comfort with a little bit of racing genes.

The Golf 8 is equipped with the usual four-cylinder turbo engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters, which now has an output of 245 hp. In addition to the well-known DSG dual-clutch transmission, the GTI is also available with a manual gearbox. Where the first Golf GTI needed almost 9 seconds to sprint to 100 kph, the eighth generation now does it in just 6.3 seconds. The price of the GTI starts between €41,000 - €43,000, depending on the choice of gearbox. Adjusted for inflation, the price for a Golf 1 was €12,700.
