Pony cars, that is the designation for sporty cars, which were rather smaller by American standards, but well motorized. They had their best time short after the debut of the naming Ford Mustang in the 1960s until the mid of the 1970s. The role models of the two modelcars from GMP come from exactly this era: The Chevrolet Camaro was one of these pony cars. With the miniatures presented here on a scale of 1:18, the coupé and cabriolet from the model year 1968 are available for the collectors. And this - how could it be otherwise with this label - in first-class quality with excellent attention to detail right down to the last corner of the engine compartment and the doors and hoods that can be opened. Not enough: the cabriolet / convertible also has a removable soft top. As always at GMP, the diecast model cars are strictly limited.

The Chevrolet Camaro came on the market in 1966 and was designed against the successful right from the start Ford Mustang. In the first years, the Camaro's always had a V8 under the bonnet, which can be also rated as a highlight in the reduction by GMP. The most powerful top version SS "Super Sport" got 220 kW / 295 gross SAE-HP from the standard engine with 5.7 liters displacement in 1968. As can be seen from the small numbers on the front of the fenders, the prototypes of our models have the 356 V8, the smallest big block with 6.5 liters displacement, under the bonnet: 242 kW / 325 gross SAE-HP or 257 kW / 350 gross SAE-HP delivering. The design of the prototypes for our modelcars comes from the Chevrolet Styling Studio: Henry Haga was responsible for the exterior, and George Angersbach designed the interior. As usual with the Americans, there have been annual facelifts, which are GMP compliant.

Like at the indicators with the new position lights and the new rear lights - two cells, which are seperated by a chrome-plated bridge. Or more recgtangular mirrors instead of round ones; some for the passenger side were not even available. As for the Rallye Soort lettering, which can be read on the fenders above the SS: This equipment package includes another radiator grille that hides its headlights behind cover flaps, as well as other indicators and rear lights. The SS equipment also offered air inlets on the bonnet with no real function, a modified suspension, a reinforced clutch and a twin-pipe exhaust system. The convertible with item number 1805718 is limited to 456 units; There are 438 copies of the coupé (1805717). If it's up to us: saddle the pony and put it in your showcase!
