As we mentioned last Thursday in the article about Silvio Moser the species of priveteers that are almost extinct today in top-class sports, we had the Ferrari 412P from 1967 not yet in mind, which is presented by the small series label CMR in big scale 1:12. The Swiss Silvio Moser had bought a BT24 from Brabham and used it in the Formula 1 with himself at the wheel; It is unthinkable that today a private man buys a Mercedes-AMG F1 or Porsche 919 hybrid and uses it himself. But that was exactly how it worked in 1967 and beyond in the motorsports sector, so qualified customers could also buy a Ferrari 412P to use at Le Mans. In the role model of the model presented here, it was the North American Racing Team, which acquired one of only five vehicles of this model.

At the 412P it is all about the customer version of the exclusively factory installed Ferrari 330P4. On the exterior there had not been massive differences on the body, for which Piero Drogo was responsible, but under the aluminum the privateers were worse off. The 4.0-liter V12, coming out of Formula 1, was redesigned for use in the factory team by engineer Franco Rocci, produced 330 kW / 450 hp and received a new five-speed gearbox. In contrast, customers received a 29 kW / 40 hp weaker version in the Ferrari 412P and the old, vulnerable ZF transmission, which even a new oil cooler could not help to significantly reduce the failure rate. The North American Racing team and its drivers Pedro Rodriguez and Giancarlo Baghetti so managed only 144 laps at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1967 only 144.

Started in class P 5.0, the starting number 25 was only ranked 30th place. As winners, Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt drove through the finish, who drove the Ford GT40 Mk. IV before two Ferrari 330P4 after 388 laps across the finish line. The race counted as the 7th run of the then World Sports car Championship and was held in front of about 310,000 spectators. The modelcars from CMR give no indication of the strains of such a race, since they have succeeded in the finish and the quality of outstanding workmanship. CMR sells the large models made of die-cast zinc exclusively at ck-modelcars.de and modelissimo under the item number CMR12009. Its highlights include replicas of the central locks and rims; the surface structure and the decoration are convincing. Our tip: Become a privateer with the 412P from CMR!
