Corona crisis and no end? Not quite, because the ADAC GT Masters has already published its schedule for this year and plans the organization of seven race weekends, starting on July 31st to August 2nd in the Czech Most or at the Lausitzring. The fact that the brain cells of the KÜS Team75 Bernhard are running at full speed despite the current standstill in the league of super sports cars is demonstrated by the team's commitment as part of an extremely innovative project with which the steer-by-wire technology Space Drive from Schaeffler Paravan Technologie GmbH & Co. KG should be further developed. For this purpose, the team from Bruchmühlbach-Miesau will use the first Steer-by-Wire Porsche 911 GT3 R, which does not require any mechanical connection between the steering gear and the steering column, which Schaeffler Paravan uses as part of the GTC Race.
The aim of the mission is to test the technical performance, robustness and full functionality of the technology under extreme conditions of the racing sport. Experienced GT driver David Jahn was hired as a regular driver for the Space Drive Technology Team, who had already successfully started in the past for the KÜS Team75 Bernhard in the ADAC GT Masters. In order to enable an objective assessment of the system, additional drivers from the driver team of the KÜS Team75 Bernhard will be deployed. “The first driving impression was better than I thought. I imagined this to be less real", reports endurance world champion and overall Le Mans winner Timo Bernhard after the first test. "The aim now is to optimize the subtleties, to bring even more feedback to the driver, especially when cornering."
Beside the Team75-Bernhard-Porsche, at least three further vehicles from other manufacturers will be equipped with the Space Drive. "We would like to get a comprehensive picture of the performance and the robustness of the system," emphasizes Roland Arnold, CEO of Schaeffler Paravan Technology GmbH & Co. KG. "It is essential to use different vehicles and vehicle concepts that are used by independent racing teams. The findings from the races and the data obtained flow continuously into the further development and industrialization of the system and are already benefiting the users of Space Drive 2, in the automotive industry and in the area of mobility for the disabled." This is how motorsport should be: fruitful for the development of the series!
"I am really happy about the joint development and technology project with the Schaeffler Paravan Technology. The task of KÜS Team75 Bernhard is going to be optimally adapt the Porsche 911 GT3 R to the conditions of the respective racetrack in connection with the steer-by-wire technology in order to ensure a smooth test run", says team manager Klaus Graf. The GTC-Race (Gran Tourismo Cup) was founded in 1990 and is used as a test platform for the development and technology project steer-by-wire.
