One year after returning to the highest level in endurance racing, Porsche celebrated its 17th overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in front of more than two hundred thousand enthusiastic fans. When the Porsche 919 Hybrid of Nico Hülkenberg, Earl Bamber and Nick Tandy crossed the target line, the Porsche team could no longer be held. Months of preparation, 24 hours of goosebumps, tension during the final round and tears of joy while the black-and-white checkered flag vented the entire tension and culminated in loud cheers. Mark Webber, Brendon Hartley and Timo Bernhard made the Porsche success perfect with second place.
In the GT-Pro class, one of the two factory-run 911s secured a good fifth place. The team around Hollywood great Patrick Dempsey, who moved up to second in class, also showed a film-ready performance.
