The headline was all over the media in 2022: a Mercedes 300 SLR, known as the ‘Uhlenhaut Coupé’, was auctioned off for 135 million euros, making it the most valuable car in the world. There are only two examples of the coupé made famous by Rudolf Uhlenhaut in 1955 in the world, the other of which can be seen in the Mercedes-Benz Museum. The car became legendary due to the fact that it offered outstanding performance, but was never used for racing.

Instead, Uhlenhaut used one of the cars as a company car and allegedly covered the 220 kilometres between Stuttgart and Munich in just one hour - quite a feat with an engine output of 300 hp and an unladen weight of just under one tonne. Even today, the key data of this early ‘hypercar’ are still impressive. • The roof structure of the coupé resembles a pilot's cockpit. The seats are covered with chequered fabric.
• The interior is lined with red leather true to the original.
• The cockpit contains complete instrumentation including all controls such as switches and levers
• True-to-original detailing
• There are two removable spare wheels in the boot, which are matched to the front and rear wheel sizes.
• The sidepipes protruding from the ventilation openings are made of stainless steel. The engine maintenance flap can be removed. It is held in place by small magnets
• Highly detailed eight-cylinder in-line engine in an inclined installation position with all add-on units and complete cable routing and wiring
• Support rod to hold the open bonnet in place
• Swivelling vent windows integrated into the side windows
• Spoked wheels with aluminium rims and hand-fitted stainless steel wire spokes with nipples
• Air intake covered with filigree metal protective grille to ventilate the engine
• Three-wing centre locks allow the wheels to be removed. The wing geometry is adapted to the side of the vehicle
