Few race cars have left as lasting a mark on the history of motorsport as the Porsche 956. With its combination of groundbreaking technology, breathtaking performance, and unforgettable liveries, the 956 ranks among the most successful endurance racing cars of all time.
Developed by Porsche engineer Norbert Singer, the vehicle revolutionized the sport with its innovative aluminum monocoque and pioneering ground-effect aerodynamics. Success was not long in coming; the 956 won the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its very debut—a triumph that marked the beginning of a new era in sports car racing. Porsche repeated this feat over the following two years, securing three consecutive Le Mans victories with the model.
However, the dominance of the Porsche 956 was not limited to Le Mans. Between 1982 and 1984, it led Porsche to three consecutive World Sportscar Championship titles, cementing its reputation as one of the most significant sports prototypes in motorsport history.
These four models commemorate some of the 956’s most memorable outings from that golden era. The striking cars featuring the Jägermeister livery replicate the winning entry from the 1984 1,000 km race at Imola, as well as the privateer entry fielded by Brun Motorsport that finished third at the 200 Miles of Nuremberg that same year.
The models featuring the legendary Rothmans livery pay tribute to two further milestones in Porsche’s history. One commemorates the victory achieved by Stefan Bellof and Derek Bell at the 1983 World Sportscar Championship season finale at Sandown Park in Australia. The other is dedicated to one of the most spectacular qualifying sessions in racing history. During the 1984 Nürburgring 1,000 km race, Stefan Bellof lapped the legendary Nordschleife in an incredible 6:11.13 minutes. This record stands to this day as the fastest lap ever driven on the Nordschleife under race conditions, securing the German driver a place in the history books.
Whether for Porsche enthusiasts, fans of the Group C era, or admirers of legendary racing liveries, these Porsche 956K models make a fantastic addition to any collection.
