When the checkered flag was waved at the Austin Grand Prix in the USA on October 25th, 2015, Lewis Hamilton achieved his third Formula 1 World Champion. He is the first Briton ever to defend his world title and the second Briton after Sir Jackie Stewart (1969,1971,1973) to become world champion three times. For today's blog post, we have considered two models from Minichamps in scale 1:18. From the World Champion Collection we present the Mercedes F1 W06 Hybrid with which Hamilton won the 2015 World Championship. The model in the usual high Minichamps quality has a replica of the cockpit that is true to the original, in which Lewis Hamilton has taken his place as a true-to-scale driver figure. The second model also comes from Minichamps and was made exclusively for ck-modelcars. It is the model for the aforementioned victory in the USA, which secured the world title for Hamilton. The Mercedes is delivered in a high-quality collector's folding box. The model, which also has a replica cockpit with a driver figure that is true to the original, is limited to 333 pieces.
In 2015, Formula 1 contested its 66th season. A total of 20 tracks had been included in the final calendar. After Hamilton won the world championship in 2008 and 2014, he and his teammate Nico Rosberg dominated the season in 2015 from the start. Hamilton was first 10 times, second 6 times, third once. Only in two races he did not finish on the podium. Hamilton won the season opener in Australia directly. A second place race in Malaysia was followed by two wins in China and Bahrain and then a second place in Spain. In the sixth race in Monaco, Hamilton started from pole position and dominated the race until a safety car phase in which his team mistakenly called him into the pits for a stop. As a result, he dropped back to third place. Hamilton was unable to overtake Sebastian Vettel in front of him on the narrow street circuit in Monaco until the end of the race. In the following race, Hamilton won in Canada and then finished second in Austria. He won his home race in Great Britain before finishing sixth in Hungary. After winning the Belgian and Italian GPs, he failed to qualify for the front row in Singapore for the first time of the season. Having started from fifth place, he retired due to a technical defect. After three more victories in Japan, Russia and the USA, Hamilton was already crowned world champion three races before the end of the season. In the last three races in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi, Hamilton let his teammate Nico Rosberg go first. Hamilton finished second behind Rosberg in all three races.
In 2015 Lewis Hamilton also fulfilled his dream of drawing level with his great idol Ayrton Senna in the number of GP victories. He did so with the win in Japan, which marked the 41st win of his career. The number of won championships is also the same for both pilots with three pieces after the 2015 season.
