For large parts of the motor racing entourage, the Brazilian who died in Imola is and remains the greatest of all time. Even young drivers who never saw Senna in action when they were alive often mention his name when asked about their idol. Ayrton Senna won three world champion titles, all with McLaren. Minichamps has released the three associated cars from the years 1988, 1990 and 1991 in scale 1:18 and in limited numbers.
Ayrton Senna had already achieved six victories in the premier class with Lotus when he changed to Ron Dennis' top team for the season 1988. In the last year of the then turbo-era, McLaren was unbeatable, winning 15 of the 16 races. Internally, Senna beat his established teammate Alain Prost with eight to seven wins and immediately became world champion in his first year with McLaren. A tense relationship quickly developed between him and Prost. The rivalry that was to determine the following years of Formula-1 became increasingly fierce.
In 1989, both fought for the World Cup crown. In Suzuka, the two collided, Prost had the better end and became world champion. Senna's second year of success in 1990 started with different signs, because Prost had gone to Ferrari for the season 1990. But even in two different teams their fight went on bitterly. It was in Suzuka of all places that drama erupted again. Immediately after the start, Senna pulled the Frenchman out of the race when approaching the first corner, which meant that Prost was unable to make up any points. Senna was world champion for the second time. He later admitted causing the collision on purpose.
In 1991, Nigel Mansell became Senna's great rival at Williams, while Alain Prost endured a disappointing season with Ferrari without a single win, ending in dispute and separation. Although the decision about the world championship was once again made in Suzuka, it was less dramatic than in previous years. Mansell was absent without Senna's involvement, securing the Brazilian's third and final world title.
The three world champion-McLaren, each with driver figure, by Minichamps are replicated true to detail in scale 1:18 and exclusively limited to 333 pieces each. They are delivered in a high-quality collector's folding box.
