At the start of the development of the Valkyrie in 2016, the working title AM-RB 001 already made it clear who was working together. While the AM stands for Aston Martin, the RB stands for Red Bull Racing, the racing team of the well-known soft drink manufacturer. The serial number 001 represents the first collaboration between the two companies. The fact that the number is three-digit will certainly give some car enthusiasts hope. The aim of the collaboration was to create a road-legal vehicle with a power-to-weight ratio of one kilogram per horsepower. The model car label Maisto has implemented the result of this collaboration in scale 1:18. The model of the Valkyrie by Maisto has steerable front wheels and opening doors. In addition to the color silver, the Valkyrie is also available in green in our shop.
Like many other super sports cars, the Valkyrie also stands for exclusivity. At the start of the project, it was already clear that no more than 150 units would be built. While delivery was originally announced for 2019, but then postponed to autumn 2021, 85 open Spider models were added in August 2021. The name Valkyrie comes from Nordic mythology and takes up a long tradition of model names at Aston Martin that begin with V. Other examples are the Vantage models and the Vulcan. The list of competitors in the league in which the Valkyrie plays reads like a long list of superlatives. In addition to the Mercedes-AMG One and the McLaren Speedtail, this also includes the Porsche 918, McLaren P1, Ferrari LaFerrari and the Koenigsegg Regera.
The list of things that make the Valkyrie extraordinary is also long. Not a single component of the chassis is made of steel. It is made of 100% carbon. It's no wonder that the stated curb weight is 1435kg, despite the 6.5-litre V12 naturally aspirated engine from Cosworth which delivers an impressive 1014 hp. Together with the electric motor, the Valkyrie has a system output of 1155 hp. It only reaches its top speed of 355 kph because it is electronically limited there. For the aerodynamic concept, Aston Martin draws on Red Bull Racing's Formula 1 experience and so the Valkyrie's downforce when it reaches its top speed is 1100 kg. If that's not enough for you, you can also purchase the AMR Track Performance package when you buy it, increasing the downforce to 1900 kg. Sport-Auto tester Christian Gebhardt proved that the Valkyrie is fast even without the package in March 2023, when he set a new track record for road-legal vehicles on the GP variant of the Bahrain International Circuit with a time of 2:01.01 minutes.
