After the success with the M6 GT3, the new BMW M4 GT3 celebrated its premiere at the long-distance classic in the Eifel in 2022. Unfortunately, a double failure prevented the third podium success in a row.
At first, the weekend started very promising. After both cars had qualified for the top qualifying, Augutso Farfus, after pole position last year, managed to secure a place on the front row again with second place.
And the start-up phase was also extremely promising. After a good start, the Austrian Philipp Eng took the lead in the fourth lap of the race and later handed over the number 99 car to Augusto Farfus while he was in the lead.
But the euphoria about the good initial phase was quickly over when, shortly after the driver change, Nick Yelloly collided with an opponent on the track so badly that he had to park the M4 GT3.
The sister car with the starting number 98 was not blessed with luck this weekend either. After a strong start, the BMW drivers steadily moved up position by position from 13th on the grid, drew level with their teammates who had an accident and took the lead after around seven hours.
However, even this happiness was short-lived, because a technical defect in the mine area caused Sheldon van der Linde to take off violently, thus ending the race for the second car prematurely.
“Of course, that was not the result we had hoped for at the 50th edition of the 24h Nürburgring. Actually, the performance of the cars, the drivers and the team was right from the qualifying sessions and also in the initial phase of the race,” sums up team boss Hans-Peter Naundorf. "We will now look ahead and do everything we can to do better in the next assignments."
The ROWE RACING design has been an absolute fan favorite for many years. Whether in the Mercedes-AMG SLS GT3, the Porsche 911 GT3 R or the BMW M6 GT3, the team from Saarland has celebrated numerous great successes with all these cars.
The first two BMW M4 GT3s in the ROWE RACING design from the 24h Nürburgring are now available on a scale of 1:18 and were produced in the usual high Minichamps quality. The model has an authentic interior and a detailed engine compartment. The front wheels are steerable and the doors and hood can be opened. The vehicle was produced exclusively for ck-modelcars.
