For the 50th birthday of the 911 there is new technology with old charm, purism and endless driving fun

back to blog overview

The Porsche 911 (992) Sport Classic reminds on the 60s and 70s. The label Spark dedicates the "Classic Porsche" a model in scale 1:43.

In today's blog article, we look at a new car that dares the leap into the past. To be more precise, into the 1960s, when sports car history was written in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen with the original version of the Porsche 911 and the Carrera RS 2.7. Porsche has limited the small series of the 911 (992) Sport Classic to a quantity of just 1250 copies. The limitation can be recognized prominently by the 911 lettering, including the model designation and personal limitation number, which is located on the trim panel of the dashboard. The label Spark provides us with the Porsche 911 (992) Sport Classic with its design in scale 1:43, which is based on the 1960s, without limitation and freely accessible to every collector. As we are used to from Spark, the model is produced in very high quality and with an eye for detail. Even the interior, which is also trimmed to look “old”, has been faithfully reproduced by Spark in the model with a checked pattern. The rims of the model in scale 1:43 are in the legendary Fuchs-design and are another design highlight reminiscent of the 911 heroes of the past.

The Porsche 911 (992) Sport Classic is part of Porsche's Heritage Design models, in which the style of iconic models from the 50s to 80s is reinterpreted in Zuffenhausen. Despite the current standard, the models are often kept very puristic and based on their predecessors from earlier times. For example, the Porsche Sport Classic has a manual transmission. The interior features the plaid pattern of the 60s and at the rear a spoiler in the design of the legendary duck tail is reminiscent of its ancestors. The look of the first 911 was also used for the coat of arms. In 2009, Porsche launched a “Sport Classic” model based on the 911 (997). At that time, with only 250 available copies, an even scarcer commodity was created than in the case of the 992. When it comes to the presentation color, Porsche, like Spark with its model in 1:43, uses the fashion gray of the Porsche 356. The color is called sport grey metallic and is one of the four selectable colors of the Heritage model, along with black, gentian blue metallic and agate grey metallic, apart from the option of choosing a paint finish of your choice, which is subject to a hefty surcharge. The starting numbers, which can be integrated into the paintwork with two longitudinal stripes, can be freely selected but can also be canceled at no extra charge.

Porsche's currently fastest manual 911 is equipped with a 3.7-liter biturbo boxer engine that delivers 550 hp to the rear-wheel drive. The transmission detects speed differences when shifting down and, if necessary, comments on this with double-declutching, which provides sound emotions for the driver thanks to the sports exhaust system installed as standard. In order to be able to protect the 992 Sport Classic against imaginative counterfeits compared to its 50-year-old predecessor, Porsche has given it a roof with two domes. If you look at the price development of the last model of the Sport Classic from 2009, you can guess that the 992 can also be an investment. The 50,000 euros surcharge compared to the Turbo S also show that buying the Sport Classic is not a question of reason. The selling points here are manual transmission in combination with engine and rear-wheel drive.
