Porsche and Turbo: two ingredients, initially very different, now perfectly coordinated - and extremely tasty in combination. In this book, Randy Leffingwell tells how Porsche managed to make use of turbo technology, which was initially difficult to control.
The success story begins in the early 1970s when the development of the first turbo engine started in Zuffenhausen. With many quotes from engineers and racing drivers, Leffingwell traces the rocky road that Porsche had to go in order to teach the turbo engines manners and finally to be able to offer them in series models. The 911 Turbo was available from dealerships from 1975, and today there are more Porsche street and racing cars with turbo engines than ever. They are all gathered in this wonderful illustrated book:
Introduction to the technical topic of turbocharging
Model history of racing cars from the 917/10 (1971) to the 934, 935 (“Moby Dick” and “Baby”), 936, 956/962, 924 Carrera GTP, 968 Turbo RS to the current 919 hybrid
Model history of street sports cars from the 911 Turbo (1975) to the 924 Turbo, 944 Turbo, 959, 911 GT2 RS, Cayenne Turbo, Panamera Turbo, Macan Turbo to the 2016 911 Carrera
