This former technical marvel of an electric automobile with wheel hub motors still influences hybrid drive concepts today.
Ferdinand Porsche was only 25 years old when he jeopardized his future and that of the Viennese car maker Ludwig Lohner with his innovative electric drive concept. By installing drive motors in the front wheels, Porsche received a stable front-wheel drive and an additional four-wheel braking system, as the car could also be braked with the motors. The electric drive was suitable for gearless power transmission, as shown in the "Mixte" model from 1901, the gasoline engine operated the power generator alone.
Among the technicians from Bela Egger & Co. in Vienna who supported Porsche were engineer Hösel, who designed the engines, and head of design, Otto Grünwald.
