Successful catch-up: Daniel Gregor with second place in the Porsche Carrera Cup

Successful catch-up: Daniel Gregor with second place in the Porsche Carrera Cup

back to blog overview

Daniel Gregor was allowed to celebrate his second rookie-podium in his still young career in the German Championship at the second racing weekend of the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany on the Ardennes-roller coaster of Spa-Francorchamps.

Daniel Gregor has completed races three and four of one of Europe's strongest brand's cups. The driver for Timo Bernhard's Team 75 Motorsport competed in the Rookie class at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the second time this season.

As with the previous races, the race weekend began with a true nightmare for the 21-year-old: Daniel Gregor struggled with persistent technical problems throughout the entire session of the weekend's first qualifying session and ultimately had to settle for a disappointing 24th place on the grid. In this weekend's field of 31 cars, Gregor faced a tough fight. The Heidelberg native bravely fought his way through the field and even briefly made it into the points! However, a few contact issues dropped Gregor to 21st place overall and fourth place in the Rookie standings.

"A difficult day. Unfortunately, we had technical problems in qualifying. In the race, we made the best of the situation. However, there were a few incidents in which my car was damaged, which didn't exactly help. But I think we have the pace and the potential, so we'll attack again tomorrow," said Daniel Gregor after the checkered flag fell in Race 1.

At the end of the race, he finished in 22nd place overall. This meant he made the most of his comeback from second-to-last place on the grid. Gregor once again demonstrated that he can score valuable points even from a difficult starting position. He earned valuable points in the rookie classification for third place.

"The rookie podium was the most we could achieve from last place on the grid. So we're happy to take these points and focus on the next races," said Gregor after his second race weekend in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany.

The Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Germany continues from June 6th to 8th. Then it goes to the coast of Zandvoort as part of the DTM.
