Jürgen Ruch is no stranger to the German motorsport scene. He made a name for himself in touring car racing in the early 1980s with a Ford Escort RS 1600i. At that time, he drove for the Ford Autoveri Motorsport team in the European Touring Car Championship, among other events. In the early 1990s, he drove for Ruch Motorsport, his brother's racing team, in the legendary white Mustang 5.0 GT with starting number 23, and from 1991 to 1994 he competed in both the DTM and the Special Touring Car Trophy.
Together with brother Gerd Ruch and Mustang ally Jürgen Feucht, the pairings became absolute crowd favorites. With the brutal sound of the five-liter eight-cylinder engine, over 540 hp and 650 Newton meters of torque, each of the Mustangs was a real wild child and attracted all kinds of attention. The almost undriveable wild horses were tamed by the drivers on the most demanding courses in Germany and, through crazy driving maneuvers and risky actions, they gathered a large fan base behind them, which still exists today.
The Mustangs usually had no chance against the factory teams of the major manufacturers, not least because of the tires that could be used. But the enthusiasm for the American dream cars was and is unbroken. "It was a great time," says Gerd Ruch, Jürgen Ruch's brother, describing the years they spent together. "The last year with the Mustang, 1994, in particular, was absolutely brilliant." The team around the Ruch brothers optimized the Mustangs on their own to the point of becoming a really good racing car, which is now available from WERK83 in scale 1:18 as a model for the home display case.
