In 1978, the Porsche 935/78 "Moby Dick" was entered for the first and only time in the legendary 24-hour race in Le Mans and caused a sensation. Powered by a supercharged 3.2-liter six-cylinder boxer engine with around 850 hp, "Moby Dick" was the fastest and most extreme model in the 935 series. Its striking design with an extended rear, widened fenders and brutal rear wing not only gave it its unmistakable appearance, but also excellent aerodynamic properties that made it unbeatable on the track.
After the superior victory in the 6-hour race in Silverstone, Porsche relied on the experienced drivers Manfred Schurti and Rolf Stommelen in Le Mans, who were to help the team to overall victory. On the long Hunaudières straight, they reached an impressive top speed of over 360 kilometers per hour with the 935/78. But despite the strong pace and dominance on the track, the team had to settle for a disappointing eighth place overall at the end of the 24 hours. Technical problems, misfires and oil loss due to the immense strain on the material had taken their toll.
The resin model from CMR perfectly reflects the unique shape of "Moby Dick". Every detail, from the body lines to the cockpit, is harmonious and of high quality. Like the original, the miniature version also has a history. The Porsche was nominated for "Model Car of the Year" in the 2018 readers' vote of the trade magazine "Modellfahrzeug". The "Moby Dick" took second place in the "Supermodel of the Year" and "Collecting Various Scales" categories. Due to high demand, the model was reissued. Further versions will follow.
