The fifth race of the 2022 Formula 1-season took place on May 8th in Miami. The race, officially known as the “Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix”, celebrated its premiere in the 2022 season. Charles Leclerc led the drivers' championship ahead of Max Verstappen when he arrived in Miami. Mercedes traveled to the USA with George Russell in fourth place in the Drivers' Championship and Lewis Hamilton in seventh place in the Drivers' Championship. The two Mercedes F1 W13s with which Hamilton and Russell competed in Miami are available in our shop in the scales 1:43 and 1:18. George Russell set the fastest lap in the second free practice session in Miami with a time of 1:29.938. In the end, Russell's time in overall qualifying was enough for 12th place on the grid, while Hamilton was allowed to start from 6th place. At the end of the race, both Russell (5th place) and Hamilton (6th place) finished in the points. The overall status of the drivers' championship after the race in Miami was similar, in which Hamilton also took sixth place. Russell came fourth behind Leclerc, Verstappen and Perez.
The Formula 1-season 2022 presented Mercedes and especially Lewis Hamilton with new, previously unknown challenges. After a long period of dominance by Mercedes in previous years, the 2021 season was narrowly lost in the last race to Max Verstappen and Red Bull. The year 2022 should be used to return to old strength. For Lewis Hamilton, the season 2022 was the tenth season in the team of Mercedes and the 16th season in Formula 1. George Russell had just moved from Williams to Mercedes and replaced Valtteri Bottas, who moved to Alfa Romeo.
The Mercedes AMG F1 W13 was developed for the season 2022, in which there were significant changes to the previous year's regulations. A 1.6-liter V6 engine from Mercedes drives the rear axle of the monoposto together with a 120 kW electric motor. The monocoque is made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic. Like all vehicles since 2011, the F1 W13 also has a DRS system, which reduces air resistance on the straight by flattening part of the rear wing, and the halo system, which has been used since 2018, to provide additional protection for the driver's head. The painting was carried out in 2022 mainly in silver. Thanks to the sponsors Petronas and Ineos, cyan and red color accents can also be found in the paintwork. Otherwise, AMD, CrowdStrike, Epson, Pirelli, TeamViewer and Tommy Hilfiger advertise on the Mercedes vehicle.
