One of the most eye-catching teams was the Haas F1 team, led by the only German in the field, Nico Hülkenberg.
At the beginning of the season, Hülkenberg returned to the premier class of motorsport as the successor to Mick Schumacher as a regular driver. After three years, in which he only competed in individual Grands Prix as a reserve driver and repeatedly set highlights, he will start at Haas in 2023 alongside Kevin Magnussen.
Hülkenberg earned the title "The Qualifier" in the process. In the inferior Haas VF-23, the 35-year-old repeatedly made it into Q3 and was among the top ten drivers. This puts him 9:3 ahead of his teammate Magnussen in the qualifying duel.
Already at the first race of the season in Bahrain, Hülkenberg made it into the top ten in qualifying. The man from Emmerich repeated this feat five more times. The highlight was qualifying for the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. Hülkenberg qualified on the front row of the grid, but "only" started the race from fifth position due to an offense with a red flag.
But even if he is mostly at a disadvantage in qualifying, Kevin Magnussen shows himself again and again with a strong performance in the race. It was the same for the Dane, who finished tenth at the second Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia and scored the first point for the American team.
With two points each from Kevin Magnussen in Saudi Arabia and Miami and Nico Hülkenberg in Australia and in the sprint in Austria, the Haas F1 Team is currently in eighth place in the constructors' championship.
Due to the only German driver in the field and the often polarizing team boss Günther Steiner, the Haas team is a topic in TV broadcasts more often than its sporting success would suggest and enjoys great sympathy among the public.
