BMW M5 E39 5.0 V8 year 2003 in scale 1:43 by Solido

back to blog overview

BMW's first M5 with a V8 engine. A sports sedan for almost every occasion

In 1995, the third generation of the M5 came onto the market with the BMW M5 E39. And that exactly 10 years after the first M5 saw the light of day. Differently to its predecessor, the M5 E39 was only available as a sedan and not as a station wagon. Solido releases the first M5, which was equipped with a V8 engine as standard, with a model in scale 1:43, in the colors titanium silver and avus blue. Solido has included all the details of the Bavarian athlete in the model in the usual quality. At the rear is the characteristic exhaust of the M5 with its two tailpipes on the left and right side. The classic M5 lettering can be seen on the side trim strips and on the rear. The 18-inch aluminum rims that were standard at the time can be found on the Solido models. The fastest production sedan at launch can now find its way into our collections.

The equipment features of the M5 E39 in 1995 were not really common - but befitting for this BMW. Leather seats with memory function, air conditioning, electric windows, cruise control and airbags all around. What can be found in a fully equipped 540i was standard on board in the M5 back then. If you wanted to dig deep into your pocket, you could even get a navigation system (DM 6400 - old German currenc) or the optional TV function (DM 3900) for a surcharge. BMW has come up with a nice gimmick so that the owner of an M5 E39 does not overdo it first thing in the morning on the way to work. The individual areas of the rev counter are equipped with LEDs that suggest to the driver exactly how far he should rev the engine, taking into account the oil temperature. Only when it has been fully warmed up, the M5 gives the green light for speeds of around 7,000 rpm. Externally, the M5 has not been adapted that much compared to the series 5 series. The most striking thing there is the exhaust with its 4 tailpipes at the rear. Otherwise, the front was provided with an additional spoiler lip and a discreet spoiler found its place on the trunk lid.

The M5 E39 is powered by a 400hp 5.0 liter V8 that can give you sleepless nights in terms of entertainment and wear and tear. If that doesn't matter, you get an uncompromising 500 Newton meters, with which you can handle family shopping just as much as the track day on the Nordschleife. In the standard version, the M5 is locked at 250 kph. However, outside of Germany it was possible to have this throttling removed. Anyone who did this could experience how the V8 unleashed its full power and could easily reach a top speed of 300 kph. The M5 E39 was only available with a manual transmission throughout its construction period. The last M5 E39 rolled off the assembly line in 2003. At the end of the construction period, just over 20,000 vehicles rolled off the assembly line. Almost 10,000 of these vehicles were destined for the North American market. The rest are 1/3 right-hand drive and 2/3 left-hand drive for the German and European market.
