After the modelcars to the Audi R8 LMS GT2, the editorial team of ck-modelcars.de continues with the brand with the four rings: Last Friday, Audi delivered the miniatures to the Audi RS 5 Turbo DTM of the season 2020. Sent out by Spark and produced from the high quality polyurethan cast resine, they are probably the last vehicles of their kind from this brand and this category as part of the Audi Collection in the typical packaging for advertising models of the manufacturer from Bavaria: The Class 1 does no longer exist up from season 2021; the cars can no longer be used in the German Touring Car Masters. In return, we can look forward to the new DTM, which allows vehicles to start according to the GT3 regulations. Some teams, including those with Audi cars, have already confirmed their participation in this new competition. But we will stay here with 2020.

After 18 races over nine weekends, René Rast left Hockenheim as the winner and leader of the drivers' championship on the very last Sunday of the 2020 season, the 21st season after the series was re-established. With 353 points ahead of second-placed Nico Müller and third-placed Robin Frijns with 330 and 279 points respectively, Audi finished the season with three vehicles in the lead. With a total of 548 points, Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline won the team championship. The fact that Audi also won the manufacturers' championship with 1,248 points perfectly rounds off the statistics from the company from Ingolstadt. A nice conclusion also for the R17 series, under which the cars were developed in 2012 exclusively for participation in the DTM. Initially fired by an eight-cylinder, the racing teams installed a four-cylinder turbo with 455 kW / 610 hp for 2019.

The engine developes a maximum torque of 650 Newton meters (Nm) and with the so-called push-to-pass-function, René Rast & Co. can also activate 22 kW / 30hp for a short time. The power transfers to the rear wheels via a transmission with six-forard gears. The prototype has a chassis in monocoque construction made of CFRP with an integrated 120-liter fuel tank and is now going to end up in the museum or in some places in the private garages of its drivers. The modelcars from Spark have it better because from now on they will always be the focus of their collectors: quality and appearance are convincing, the lines are perfect. Splinters, spoilers, the grille, the replica of the wheels, brakes and Hankook tires all match the finish, as Spark fans have appreciated for many years. Which will certainly remain so for the DTM 2021.
