Porsche used everything that is good and expensive for building the current 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport: A fine six-cylinder boxer engine with 313 kW / 425 hp, encased in body parts made from a biofiber composite, equipped with a six-speed PDK double clutch transmission with optimized switching application and in this form for the first time available from the factory in two versions: As Trackday model for ambitious hobby racing drivers and as Competition for national and international competitions. There are two modelcars available for the near-series mid-engine, which come from the house of Minichamps and which can now get into collectors hands at a havily discounted price: Under the item number WAP0214150K from the high quality polyurethan cast resin in scale 1:18 as well as from diecast in format 1:43 (WAP0204150K).

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport 2019 is a consequent further development of the success model from Weissach that was introduced into the market three years ago. In addition to an even better drivabillity and faster lap times the focus was also set on the sustainable use of raw materials during the development. The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport has body parts made from a biofiber composite material as the first series-produced racing car. Driver and passenger door as well as rear wing are produced from a natural fiber mix, which basically consits of residues from the agriculture as flax or hemp fibers and have the characteristics similar to carbon fiber in terms of weight and rigidity. Compared to its predecessor, the 3.8 liter six-cylinder developed an increase in output of 30 kW / 40 hp. The maximum torque is 425 Newton meters (Nm).

The transmission of power to the rear wheels of the sports car, which is not approved for use on the road, is carried out by a Porsche dual clutch transmission with six gears and a mechanical rear differential lock. The lightweight strut front axle comes from its big brother 911 GT3 Cup. The generously dimensioned racing brake system is equipped with steel brake discs with a diameter of 380 millimeters at the front and rear. The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport weighs 1,320 kilograms and has a welded safety cage, a racing bucket seat and six-point belts as standard. "The new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport has significantly more racing genes than its successful predecessor," says Porsche Motorsport Director Fritz Enzinger. “The engine output has increased significantly. At the same time we were able to increase the downforce!"

Enzinger also mentions that the cockpit now is even more orientated to the needs of the drivers: "I'm very sure that we can continue with the excellent sales of the predecessor. We delivered 421 vehicles from it." The basic version Trackday is aimed at amateur pilots who want to use the racing car at private racetrack events and club sport events with little effort. The vehicle has a fixed shock absorber set-up which, in combination with the ABS, ESC and traction control assistance systems that can be switched off if necessary, ensures good-natured driving behavior at the limit. Air conditioning, a rescue hatch in the roof, a hand fire extinguisher and an 80 liter FT3 safety tank are also standard. The vehicle that is not street legal can be serviced in all Porsche centers.

The Competition-model is equipped with a number of competitive equipment details. Thus, the suspension is three-way adjustable. The safety tank is suitable for endurance races with a capacity of 115 liters. The break balance can be adjusted stepless between the front and rear axle via a horizontal beam system. The integrated air lifting system guarantees fast pit stops. The removable racing steering wheel from the 911 GT3 R provides a wide range of adjustment options in the driver's direct field of vision. There is an automatic fire extinguishing system for improved safety during racing. The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport Competition costs 157,000 euros plus VAT.; the trackday version costs 134,000 euros plus country-specific VAT. And the modelcars?
