What is more appropriate on Throwback Thursday to write about an oldtimer? Nothing, we say in the editorial office and pick up the Mercedes-Benz of the model series W 138, which appeared as 260 D by Triple9 in these days. The modelcars are produced from the high quality polyurethan cast resin and show the 260 D Pullman Landaulet from 1936 in four versions: At the burgundy model with item number T9R1800102 both roof parts are shown completely locked; at the beige / dark red version (T9R1800104) the roof middle part and the folding roof are fully open. In between are the miniatures in black with open rear hood and closed main roof (T9R1800103) as well as the grey version with reverse representation (T9R1800105).

So now let us look back on today's Thursday to the history of the role models of our modelcars, which appeared in scale 1:18. And it has it all, as the Mercedes-Benz 260 D was the first passenger car in the house with a diesel engine under the hood. The limousine, based on the W 21, was presented in February 1936, in Berlin at the 26th International Automobil- and motorcycle exhibition IAMA, the forerunner of the later IAA. The four-cylinder in-line engine with its 2.6 liter displacement developed 33 kW / 45 hp. The helped the 260 D to a top speed of about 90 kilometers per hour. The average consumption is a bit over 9.0 liter diesel oil and undercuts the 13 liter petrol of the gasoline engine type 200 according to the manufacturer. At 17 pfennigs per liter, diesel also costs less than half the price of petrol.

Therefore, especially taxi drivers set immediately on this vehicle, which was available right from the start as a spacious Pullman-Landaulet with six seats. In September 1936, Mercedes-Benz also offered a Pullman-limousine as well as a 4/5 seat limousine and a 4/5 seat convertible B as a further body shapes of the type 260 D. In addition to taxi drivers, private customers are also increasingly opting for the very economical vehicle that Triple9 emulates in a very attractive way. Dear collectors, if you look at the lovingly made headlights and the fins of the radiator grille, you will understand what Triple9 means by attention to detail. The ventilation slots on the bonnet, the filigree wipers and door handles, the luggage rack at the rear as well as the well-recreated interior complement these miniatures and really make this Thursday very special.
